A Touch of Austria History
Dating back to the beginning of the 19th Century, “The Society of the Friends of Music” was started to cultivate the appreciation of music in Vienna, Austria. At that time, the famous Strauss family was the center of attraction. Dance compositions became instant hits. Waltzes, including “Tritsch Tratsch” the famous polka of Johann Strauss junior became the music for entertainment.
Soon thereafter, the Viennese composer Franz Schubert brought inspiration, entertainment, creative energy and the joy of life through his founding of “Schubertiades” – musical soirees in the circle of music lovers.
In 2017, A Touch of Austria was founded to rekindle the appreciation of a diverse range of top quality music for music buffs in the Okanagan Valley. Its founding stems from blending Schubertiades musical soirees and the Tritsch Tratsch Polka meaning ‘chit chat’ that exemplifies the warmth of human connection and opportunities for social gatherings.
Born in Montreal of Austrian Viennese heritage, I learned about the traditions and culture of the European country from an early age. Part of my extensive educational background was to study and live in Salzburg and Vienna. I also acquired culinary skills from working at an internationally acclaimed restaurant and hotel, learning culinary recipes. I also have extensive knowledge in piano performance, music history and the arts studying with world class artists, teachers and performers. .My diverse background as a multi-disciplinary artist performer provides me the opportunity to share my passion for music, arts and culture and wealth of experience with others.
